G            Em           C            D
I heard the bells on Christmas day
       Em               F#       Bm
The old familiar carols play
          D                              G            E7
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Am    G    C               D
Peace on earth good will to men

     G              Em          C            D
I thought how, as the day had come,
       Em                  F#       Bm
The belfries of all Christendom
          D                             G           E7
Had rolled along the unbroken song
      Am    G    C                D       G
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

        G        Em    C               D
And in despair I bowed my head:
          Em                        F#       Bm
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
          D                            G            E7
“For hate is strong and mocks the song
     Am      G    C               D
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”

           G              Em             C            D
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
       Em                         F#       Bm
“God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
          D                              G          E7
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
        Am      G    C                D         G
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
