CHRISTMAS EVE

2010

Narrator: Good evening. Welcome to our 2010 Christmas Eve service. The very power of Almighty God goes to work when Christians gather in His name.

Matthew 18:19-20) [BBE] Again, I say to you, that if two of you are in agreement on earth about anything for which they will make a request, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

20) For where two or three are come together in my name, there am I among them.

Narrator: This Christmas season will wrap up tomorrow evening at midnight. I hope and pray that we have remembered the real “Reason For the Season,” and have celebrated the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Micah 5:2) [NAS] “But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity.”

Matthew 2:6) [GNB] ‘Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are by no means the least of the leading cities of Judah; for from you will come a leader who will guide my people Israel.’”

Luke 2:4) [GNB] Joseph went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to the town of Bethlehem in Judea, the birthplace of King David. Joseph went there because he was a descendant of David.

Narrator: A little, somewhat insignificant, village was to play a large part in the Christmas story. The little town was to become the birthplace for God Himself to enter this world.

Matthew 2:1-2) [GW] Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea when Herod was king. After Jesus’ birth wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem.

2) They asked, “Where is the one who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him.”

Narrator: That first Christmas three wise men followed a star to find the baby Jesus. Wise men sought Jesus then, and wise men and women still seek Jesus today.

Matthew 2:2, 9-11) [GW] They asked, “Where is the one who was born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star rising and have come to worship him.”

9) After they had heard the king, they started out. The star they had seen rising led them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

10) They were overwhelmed with joy to see the star.

11) When they entered the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary. So they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Narrator: That first Christmas night was a Holy Night. It was the night that God entered into this world in the form of a baby, a human baby. It was a night for worship! It was a night to present themselves to God. This Christmas is also a Holy time, a time for you and I to worship! It’s a time for us to present ourselves to God.

Luke 2:17-19) [CEV] When the shepherds saw Jesus, they told his parents what the angel had said about him.

18) Everyone listened and was surprised.

19) But Mary kept thinking about all this and wondering what it meant.

Narrator: This must have been amazingly difficult for Mary to comprehend. She, no doubt, thought long and often about that amazing night. I wonder if she ever thought about the things mentioned in this next song.

Narrator: What an amazing story this is. I’m talking about the birth of the Savior of mankind, the birth of the eternal God. Wow! Join us as we sing together, “Silent Night.”
